Like preceding volumes in the Literary Research: Strategies and Sources series, which covered British Romanticism and several periods of American literature, this book seeks to introduce researchers to primary and secondary resources in a wide field of study. The author is a cataloguing librarian at Washington State University Libraries, and although the text displays certain Americanisms in spelling, as with “catalogs”, there is certainly no US bias in the resources referred to. In fact altogether Matthews has done a splendid job of presenting the diverse tools available to the scholar in a well ordered, comprehensive and economical package.
