Twentieth Century Advice Literature (TCAL) is an Alexander Street Press collection, assembled from a massive but often ephemeral body of publications produced primarily in the United States between the 1890s and 1970s. TCAL focuses on “family dynamics, gender, roles, sexual relationships, and race relations” and aims “to provide researchers and students with a highly visual and fully searchable archive” (A. Eastman‐Mullins 2010, pers. comm., 5 March). TCAL currently numbers some 555 titles with 96,000 pages, two‐thirds of an anticipated 150,000 pages, including 42 titles added in December 2009. Publications range from pamphlets to full textbooks.
