Scarecrow's historical dictionaries roll on. With this volume Historical Dictionaries of Europe, a series reinvigorated in the last few years, reaches number 72. As with many of the recent publications in the series this volume on the Czech State is an updated edition, the title originally having appeared as number 23 in 1998. The first edition was the work of Jiri Hochman, a native Czech journalist and writer who became a refugee in the USA after the Prague Spring and is best known as the translator of Alexander Dubčeck's autobiography Hope Dies Last.
