A Dictionary of Opera Characters (revised edition)

This comes at opera from a different angle from the general history or compilation of potted plots. Some readers may be familiar with the earlier version, but for those that are not, here is a dictionary, which, while giving brief plot summaries, is mainly devoted to information about the characters as they appear across the spectrum of opera plots. So there is an entry for each appearance, some meriting a number of mentions in different operas, and for every character (where possible) there is a note of the person who created the role and date of first performance.
