Chess Periodicals: An Annotated International Bibliography, 1836‐2008

I was doubly pleased to receive this smart book from McFarland for review. As a long‐term chess enthusiast this was a subject dear to me. And having both professional and academic interests in bibliography, I could look forward to an absorbing study. I was not disappointed. Whether many others share this dual interest in chess and bibliography is a moot point, though chess has a huge literature and the fact that compiler Di Felice found 3,163 chess periodicals, magazines, bulletins, etc. worldwide covering 173 years to feature, shows we are not alone.
