In the early years of the twentieth century, the County Chief Constables in the UK wanted uniforms that would differentiate them from the Borough Chiefs. King Edward VII approved the design, but it was felt they had been designed on far too magnificent and expensive a scale, so the police authorities refused to pay for them! The new, and never used, uniform features on the book's cover. This interesting snippet is just one of the many fascinating facts to be found in this information‐packed little book. Well, little as in A5; it's quite thick!
