Greek comedy is perhaps best known, to the non‐academic, through the substantial remains of the plays of Aristophanes, all of which have been translated into English and therefore made accessible to a wide audience. However, there is a substantial literature of less well‐known Greek comedy that has existed until now only in fragmentary form in its original Greek. It has been accessible only to the most experienced of Greek scholars, resulting in a less than full understanding of the true nature of this genre for many academics.
