Billed as one of the largest collections of oral history interviews with African Americans, The HistoryMakers formed as a non‐profit organization in 1999 and in 2002 was designated a special collection of the Illinois State Library System. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, the aim of The HistoryMakers is to record the stories of individuals along with organizations, movements and periods of time that document the historical significance of the African American experience.
