This is a fascinating three-volume set that looks at Native Americans in each of the fifty states; how Native Americans affected each state/region; and how the state influenced the native societies/culture within each state. The introduction to the set perhaps states its aim best: “[T]he state-based perspective contained in these volumes rectifies a glaring omission in approaches to North American Indian history while offering a more in-depth, nuanced evaluation of smaller locales and processes often missing in traditional studies” (p. xv).
