APA Handbook of Psychology, Religion, and Spirituality

Psychology, spirituality, and religion are all ways for humans to understand the world around them as well as the actions of others. As the editor in chief, Kenneth Pergament, states in the introduction to the APA Handbook of Psychology, Religion, and Spirituality, “… religion and spirituality are anything but simple. They are rich, diverse, and complex processes made up of a tremendous array of expressions and experiences – cognitive, behavioral, affective, and relational” (p. xxv). Perhaps this sentence alone encapsulates the need for this handbook, which connects religion and psychology, providing information on the relationship between the two.
