Beacon for Freedom of Expression is a website dedicated to an extensive database of references to media from around the world that have been censored or are about censorship to aid learning and dialogue – and librarians have been instrumental in its construction.

Censorship is the shadow to modern librarianship’s light. It is the other side of the coin of access – frequently a publicly unspoken, even tempting presence, yet profoundly limiting one’s abilities to understand the world.
