Modern Spain, reviewed here in its e-book version, is a fairly comprehensive volume in a series of books entitled Understanding Modern Nations. Each country volume contains sixteen chapters on a variety of topics relating to the culture and history of the nation. They could be considered “thematic encyclopedias” as they each contain sixteen chapters with information on a particular theme. One of the positives of the series as that a reference list is provided at the end of each chapter for further reading and reference for an interested patron or reader.
