A Guide to British Military History presents, as its subtitle may suggest, a combination of historiography and an extended literature review. There must be at least 2,000 works (mostly books) referred to therein, the more important ones in the main text and the less important in the extensive footnotes. It is curious that the references provide the name of the author, the title and the date but not the publisher.
