The Making of the Oxford English Dictionary

Had I not spent a good part of my library career consulting the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), there were times when reading this book I would have wondered if the work would ever see the light of day, and it seems that similar doubts beset the delegates of the Oxford University Press at frequent intervals. The eventual completion of the published volumes is recounted as far into this book as Chapter 9 and is called Limping Over the Finishing Line: 1923-1933.
