This dry title belies a work of immense scholarship yet made very readable across its mighty two volumes. The first deals with the Old Testament and the second with the New, with the chapters following through (volume two begins at Chapter 14), although the page numbers start again in the second volume. The 40-page introduction in volume one is relevant to both volumes.

The author declares this as a life work, although this is the fourth edition, but the implications are that this represents McDonald’s personal stamp and a summation of a great deal of scholarly research and previous writing...
