A Dictionary of Science (7th edition)

This book represents the latest edition of Oxford’s A Dictionary of Science, first published in 1984 as the Concise Science Dictionary and last reviewed in these columns in its previous edition eight years ago (RR 2010/274). While this updated book covers the entirety of the natural sciences, including computing, unsurprisingly, despite containing over 9,500 individual references, it does not represent itself as a comprehensive dictionary. Nevertheless, it is clear from even a casual glance that any reader of this work seeking clarification within the sciences will find much to reward and satisfy their curiosity.
