June Melby Benowitz, Associate Professor of History at University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (MA Portland State University, PhD University of Texas-Austin), is also the author of the first edition, published in 1998. The second edition, expanded into two volumes (799 pages), includes 36 additional entries and new information for previous entries. Also new to the second edition are primary document references including legal documents, letters, manuscripts and speeches added to the further reading section of relevant entries.
