This is the latest title in a long and venerable series that has recorded the development of librarianship in the UK. The series can trace its origin back to 1929 when The Year’s Work in Librarianship covering 1928 was published by the Library Association. Coverage in this and subsequent annual volumes was international, with the focus more on reviewing the literature rather than recording events. After the Second World War, publication became quinquennial under the title Five Years’ Work in Librarianship, the first volume covering 1951-1955, but with the remit still international and the focus still on publications.
