To suggest that the publication of a new reference book is “timely” has become somewhat of a cliché, but, in my view, it is an apt description for The Encyclopedia of Racism in American Films. At the time of writing (October 2018) there has been much heated discussion in the media on this subject, particularly in regard to the films which won in 2018, and those that might or might not win in the forthcoming 2019 Oscars (91st Academy Awards) to be held on February 24, 2019.
