Brill’s Encyclopedia of Hinduism. Volume III. Society, Religious Specialists, Religious Traditions, Philosophy (RR 2012/153). Third volume on what will be the definitive work in English on Hinduism. Follows our reviews of previous volumes: (RR 2010/201) and (RR 2011/150). The set is scheduled to be complete in five volumes.
Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language Sciences (RR 2012/168). Significant new work in its field comprising 483 entries.
Conflict and Conquest in the Islamic World (RR 2012/194). Another reference relating to the Islamic world, this ABC-Clio two volume set,reviewed here in its e-book version, covers over 250 battles and conflicts from 650 CE to the present.
Early American Imprints, Series I: Supplement from LCP 1670-1800 (RR2012/151). Adds 1,000 additional items to the Readex’s Early American Imprints database based on Charles Evans American Bibliography,previously reviewed in these columns in its Readex online version (RR2005/068).
Encyclopedia of Climate and Weather (RR 2012/176). Second edition of this Oxford University Press title first published in 1996. This expanded three volume set focuses more extensively on the societal aspects of climate change, especially national policy-making and international policy negotiations.
First World War: Personal Experiences (RR 2012/196). Another innovative resource from UK database producer Adam Matthew Digital. Put together in collaboration with libraries and museums in a number of countries,this resource includes a wide range of primary materials such as diaries,letters, sketches and photographs, supplemented by supporting essays, maps, etc.
Green’s Dictionary of Slang (RR 2012/171). A review of the database version of Green’s available on the Oxford Digital Reference Shelf platform. Green’s dictionary, a dictionary on historical principles like the Oxford English Dictionary and first published in three volumes in 2010, is now the definitive reference source for slang.
Handbook of Mammals of the World (RR 2012/178). The Barcelona-based publisher Lynx, having recently completed the monumental Handbook of the Birds of the World (RR 2008/360), has now embarked on a similar project for mammals to be completed in eight volumes.
Oxford Companion to Classical Literature (RR 2012/173). New edition of this standard Oxford University Press companion previously published in 1989. This edition provides a large-scale revision and adds 200 entries.
Wiley International Encyclopedia of Marketing (RR2012/166). Major new seven volume set from Wiley. Also available online.
