The National Technical Information Service (NTIS), an organizational entity of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is an unusual federal agency. A relatively small government organization with fewer than 350 employees, NTIS is one of the few federal agencies that pays its own way by recovering its costs of operation from the sale of its products and services.
