Readers skillful in creating or solving crossword puzzles (Cruciverbalists) will recognize the following clue a “‘Mix of this and that’ with 5 letters” and the 1 answer – BLEND.

People who like crossword puzzles typically have the following personality traits: observant, organized, detail-oriented and excellent problem solvers.

We suspect that many of our readers are puzzlers of one kind or another and suggest that regardless of what kind of puzzlers they are, they will find considerable value in the blend of scholarly articles in this issue.

Reference Services Review’s Volume 52 Issue 3 features a literature review, case studies, viewpoints and research papers. This blend includes articles on applying universal design for learning to library peer professional development, creating short-form content for academic libraries, onboarding for liaison librarians, teaching and learning in AskALibrarian Chat and metaverse adventures into libraries. An exemplary and exhaustive literature review, “Library Instruction and Information Literacy 2023,” remains a showpiece of the issue, and indeed, of the volume to date. My compliments to Carolyn Caffrey and her team. The clear, unambiguous style and careful analysis are a delight to read, avoiding many of the pitfalls that often characterize “literature reviews.” This review stands out even in a journal which prides itself on carrying well-written articles.

Scholarly articles are the lifeblood of research and, increasingly, the lifeblood of both practice and professional and talent development. The articles in this issue deliver in their potential to advance knowledge, solve problems, inform decisions and, ultimately, create a positive impact within our field.
