It has come to the attention of the publisher that the article Erin O., Adegboye A. and Bamigboye O.A. (2022), “Corporate governance and sustainability reporting quality: evidence from Nigeria”. Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal, Vol. 13 No. 3 pp. 680–707, doi: Link to Corporate governance and sustainability reporting quality: evidence from NigeriaLink to the cited article, incorrectly cites the following work in three places in support of claims relating to board independence, gender diversity, and stakeholder accountability: Adams C.A., Larrinaga‐González C., Adams C.A. and McNicholas P. (2007), “Making a difference: Sustainability reporting, accountability and organisational change”. Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Vol. 20 No. 3 pp. 382–402, doi: https://doi.org/10.1108/09513570710748553. That work does not empirically examine board composition (such as independence or gender diversity) but instead focuses on sustainability reporting processes and organizational change within a case study context. The article’s findings, theoretical contributions, and conclusions currently remain intact, however. The authors cooperated fully with this investigation and wish to emphasize that the reference was included to support the theoretical and accountability-based rationale linking governance structures, stakeholder responsiveness, and sustainability reporting rather than to provide empirical evidence on specific board attributes, but that they take full responsibility for these errors. Emerald’s publishing ethics policies make it clear that authors must be accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the work submitted, and bear full responsibility for checking the accuracy of references and must have consulted the works referenced to ensure their validity and alignment with the research being presented. The authors sincerely apologize to the readers of the journal.
