In the last quarter of a century, coopetition has increasingly gar- nered the attention of management scholars. Notwithstanding, the extensive corpus of literature developed on coopetition has remained largely separate from mainstream strategic management research. This paper aims to review this “off-the-way” develop- ment of coopetition literature, and reconnect it to the realm of strategic management research. To establish a closer and more forward-looking links between coopetition and current strategic management research, first, we build a comprehensive map of the coopetition literature. Second, we retrace the key constructs in strategic management research that have informed the advance- ment of the coopetition stream, and reveal how they have been embodied in coopetition. Finally, we suggest a research platform for future investigation that promises to move coopetition body of inquiry forward.
