Low cost LVIT-Z transducer for space critical hydraulic/pneumatic applications
Low cost LVIT-Z transducer for space critical hydraulic/pneumatic applications
Lucas Control Systems(LCS), a division of LucasVarity, has introduced the new Schaevitz™ LVIT-Z Linear Variable Inductance Transducer for hydraulic/pneumatic applications where space is limited. Offering immunity to environmental contamination and suited to a wide range of applications including blade type valve position sensing, the transducer is manufactured using mass production methods offering significant economies of scale and cost benefits to customers.
The new LVIT-Z has infinite resolution and can be configured for a wide variety of linear measurement applications. Featuring a proprietary design based on chemically etched planar coil technology, the LVIT-Z offers accuracy of better than ±0.5 per cent non-linearity over the full stroke and excellent error compensation:the unit's patented differential operation ensures a high rejection rate of any common mode error, offering high accuracy even in the harshest environmental conditions. By using PCB technology and integrating the sensor with the conditioning electronics on the same board the LVIT-Z offers high repeatability and ensures unit to unit inter-changeability.
The LVIT-Z features a contactless design, in which a spoiler attached to the moving part floats at close proximity to the sensor coil. In the absence of wiper contact, and with no brushes or slip rings, the LVIT-Z is not subject to mechanical wear or electrical noise, making the unit more reliable than conventional transducers.
The low-cost Schaevitz™LVIT-Z provides absolute linear displacement measurements and can replace linear potentiometers or LVDTs. The unit features DCin DCout, ratiometric and unipolar or bipolar outputs, as well as a duty cycle output for direct interface with microprocessor controllers. Output can be scaled to 90 per cent of the input voltage. The LVIT-Z can be configured and housed to suit customer size and other requirements, ensuring optimum sizing and cost effectiveness
