Nicolet Technologies has introduced a new ruggedised model of its Odyssey data-acquisition system for in-vehicle and field measurements (see Plate 2).
The new Odyssey R offers all the functions of oscillographic recorders or instrument tape recorders, plus the benefits of PC processing. Features include integrated signal conditioning,high-speed continuous recording of up to 16 analogue and 16 digital channels,and a digital signal processor on each channel for sophisticated real-time measurements, triggering and data reduction.
The Odyssey R also incorporates an industrial-quality Pentium PC to run other applications, even while recordings are being made.
A sturdy all-metal housing includes an integrated keyboard and protective cover, with two levels of shock mounting for the internal disk drives. Unlike conventional PC-based instruments,the Odyssey R will withstand shocks of 20G and vibration forces of 5G RMS while operating.

Other features of the Odyssey R include exceptionally long records (over 200 megasamples per channel),a convenient VCR-like review facility with a jog/shuttle knob, and a standard Ethernet interface. Dedicated acquisition hardware guarantees gap-free recording at 100kS/s per channel with no aggregate sample-rate limitation.
The system's Windows®software provides comprehensive analysis and report-generation capabilities with custom page layouts, automatic calculations and data export in popular formats.
