Thanks to its simple mechanical interface - a spring loaded probe and a ball tip (see Plate 3) - the Model SST Incremental Optical Linear Encoder from Huco Engineering Components can be installed and aligned in a matter of minutes. This new short stroke linear encoder provides resolutions of 0.002mm or 0.001mm when used with external 4X circuitry. The standard model is dust resistant making it suitable for use in relatively clean production enviromnents such as semiconductor wafer processing and general metrology applications. A splash resistant version is also available for harsher working environments.

The model SST has an LED light source and may be specified as a 25.4mm stroke or 50.8mm stroke unit. Its complementary, TTL compatible outputs provide high immunity to ambient noise and are easily interfaced to multiplication circuit and conventional up/down logic. An optional zero reference output can be specified at the beginning or end of travel or at 25.4mm intervals throughout the stroke length. The encoder is supplied complete with a cable or with a choice of connectors.
