Instrumentation manufacturers join forces to strengthen market share

Two of the most well-known names in process instrumentation - Mobrey and Solartron have joined forces. Know as Solartron Mobrey Limited, the new company becomes one of the UK's largest manufacturers of measurement and control sensors. The combined product portfolio of the two businesses offers customers a single-source supply for an extensive range of level, flow, pressure, density,viscosity and other measurement solutions.
The announcement follows the acquisition of the Mobrey Group of companies from Meggitt plc by The Roxboro Group plc (Solartron's parent) on 7 January 2000.
Steve Dowling, managing director of Solartron Mobrey (formerly managing director of the Mobrey Group) commented: "There is much synergy between the Solartron and Mobrey product ranges and significant overlap in our customer-bases. The coming together of the two businesses will strengthen our position in a competitive market."
UK manufacturing for the new company continues at Mobrey's Slough and Crawley sites and at the Solartron plant at Farnborough. Marketing worldwide is through a network of wholly-owned subsidiaries in Belgium, France, Germany,Sweden, Poland and the USA. Products from Solartron Mobrey provide continuous precision monitoring of process industries worldwide, including applications in nuclear and fossil fuel power generation plant, oil and gas production and refining, water and waste treatment and the hygienic industries of chemical,pharmaceutical and food.
As one of the world's largest suppliers of process instrumentation, Mobrey offers a wide range of level measurement and control solutions, from mechanical,ultrasonic and vibrating fork level switches through to ultrasonic and radar level transmitters.
Flow monitoring instruments include variable area, turbine, averaging pilot and ultrasonic technologies, with pressure transmitters and gauges completing the product portfolio. Brand names such as Rotameter, Sparling, Meterflow,Tylors and KDG are all well established.
Solartron is a world class manufacturer of density and viscosity instrumentation, flow computers, industrial data acquisition modules and the Hydrastep water level gauging and steam/water detection system. Solartron's density product lines have become well established as the defacto standard for precision density measurement. The viscosity product line, including ViscoMaster, Covimat and VDS (Viscosity and Density Systems) provide ground-breaking accuracy and speed of response enabling viscosity to be used as a real-time control parameter in critical applications.
