It has been tried and tested on all types of machine tools and incorporates a universal, variable control interface for machine connection with only a few lines. The system offers a wide range of application monitoring for:
Tool fracture and wear, with a speciality for extremely small tools (i.e. drills down to 1mm diameter) and multiple spindle drill heads.
Tool collisions and contact between workpiece and tool.
Feed control and reduction of all aspects of air machining.
Workpiece chatter, waviness and roughness during machining.
Dimensional checking of finished workpiece.
Some of the special advantages of the equipment include:
Modular tool monitoring for all types of machine tools and work functions.
Task related and parallel analysis of all major measuring parameters with either eight or 16 laser light points of reference.
Self learning detection of limit values with optional targeted graphic reworking.
The equipment incorporates both well proven and new monitoring strategies coupled with ease of operation via the graphic display module. Monitored programmes and printouts of process data can be saved with the inherent software, while information transfer can also be undertaken via modem for remote analysis.
Full integration for the SEM-68000 system can also be carried out in "open controls" for lathes, machining centres, rotary cycle machines, transfer lines and grinding machines etc. This permits operation and control of all the monitoring functions from the CNC machine control panel, with display of measurement curves also on the CNC monitor.
Some of the new sensor technologies included in the system include infeed or radial force transducers for measuring spindle movements with nanometer resolution. Tool or workpiece torque sensors to prevent the possibility of overloading. Laser sensors for length and profile measurements of tools and workpieces with resolution in the micron range.
