Strategy and business models (BMs) are key to success and are increasingly used by organisations. Using the Baldrige Excellence Framework (BEF), this study mainly aims to analyse the role of BM implementation, as captured by operating model (OM) and enterprise architecture (EA), in the context of business excellence models.
The research model is analysed using partial least squares and survey data from 203 Saudi firms.
The findings show that the importance of BM implementation (i.e. OM and EA execution) is reinforced by the mediating effect exerted by these constructs between strategy and organisational results. In addition, this study develops a conceptual framework depicting the integration of BMs and the BEF. It also discusses the resultant implications for theory, management practice and future research.
In the context of business excellence models, empirical analyses on the extent to which strategy and BMs can be interrelated and integrated are scarce. This paper contributes to filling this research gap.
