Integrating Industry 4.0 tools into the Six Sigma DMAIC phases: a pathway to digital-driven quality improvement

Dr Shivaprasad Channappagoudar, Deputy General Manager, HAL (Hindustan Aeronautical Limited), is a Mechanical Engineer with MTech in Industrial Engineering from NIT, Calicut. He has obtained his doctorate in mechanical engineering from NITK, Surathkal. He also holds a PG Diploma in Materials Management from IIMM. He is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He is a Certified Quality Engineer and Certified Reliability Engineer from American Society for Quality (ASQ). He has authored a book titled “Applied Six Sigma with Aerospace Case Studies” and has published several papers in international journals. His research areas of interest includes Six Sigma, Reliability engineering, Industry 4.0, Operations management, Process excellence and Systematic Innovation (TRIZ).

Dr Shreeranga Bhat is a Faculty at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of St Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore, India. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's Degree in Engineering Management from the Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. He received PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering on the topic Lean Six Sigma from VTU, Belagavi. He is Certified Master Black Belt in Six Sigma from Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. He has published more than fifty papers in the reputed international journals. He has received two Best Reviewer Award reputed journals. His area of interest includes Quality 4.0, Operational Excellence, Robust Engineering, Reliability Engineering and Design of Experiments.

E.V. Gijo is a faculty member in the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Operations Research Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, India. He holds a master's degree in Statistics and another master's degree in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research. He is an active consultant in the fields of Six Sigma, quality management, reliability, Taguchi methods, time-series analysis and allied topics in a variety of industries. He is a certified MBB and Trainer in Six Sigma and a qualified assessor for ISO-9001 and ISO-14001 systems. He has published more than 20 papers in reputed international journals and is a reviewer for six international journals in statistics and quality management. He also teaches in the academic programs of the Institute.
