Purpose

In the modern workplace, it is evident that work-life balance (WLB) and career satisfaction (CS) are crucial ideas. This paper’s primary goals are to comprehensively evaluate the literature to assess knowledge about WLB and CS, offer comprehensive bibliographic understandings, identify research gaps, and recommend further study.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper discusses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) article searching processes. 51 articles published in journals between 2013 and 2023 were reviewed using the Web of Science database. In addition, Biblioshiny has been used with a bibliometric approach to assess the paper’s objectives.

Findings

The findings indicate that WLB and CS are not receiving enough research attention, although they are still being developed. The researchers identify the most impactful articles and authors by analyzing citation counts, publication records, and geographic distribution. Furthermore, identified several discrepancies between the WLB and CS areas, and were mostly published in medicine-related articles.

Originality/value

This research is a pioneering work that systematically analyses the WLB and CS. This study fills in the gaps in WLB and CS, greatly improving the state of knowledge in these domains. This cooperation can help future researchers by providing guidance when they perform studies that are intended to close known gaps in the literature.
