This paper examines the mediating role of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies on the relationship between quality management practices (QMP) and organizational performance parameters (OPP).
A conceptual framework is proposed to test causal links between QMP, OPP and I4.0 technologies. Then, hypotheses linking QMP, OPP and I4.0 technologies were proposed and empirically tested. The data were obtained from a survey of 349 professionals working in Indian companies from the manufacturing sector. Analysis was done using the partial least square structural equation modelling technique to test this framework empirically.
This empirical study demonstrates that QMP has a direct and significant positive effect on OPP and I4.0 technologies and I4.0 technologies positively influence OPP. The findings also suggest that I4.0 technologies have a complementary partial mediating effect on the relationship between QMP and OPP.
This research strengthens the expanding literature on the influence of I4.0 and quality management for OPP of manufacturing industries in India.
