American university instruction in hotel administration

Probably the first and in any case the most comprehensive university course in Hotel Administration is of American origin. The course was established twenty‐five years ago at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, by the American Hotel Association, then in itself a very young organization which had begun to plan for vocation schools for hotel workers and management schools for hotel executives. This was about the same time that the magazine “Hotel Management” was launched. In 1922 an era of hotel expansion was beginning and the need for trained hotel personnel on both of these levels was becoming acute. Such men as Ellsworth M. Statler and Lucius Boomer, of the Waldorf‐Astoria, supported the young American Hotel Association in its ambitious program and the Association was able to complete its negotiations with Cornell University.
