This paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the determinants and methodologies of tourism demand research from 1961 to 2022, through a systematic literature review.
A systematic review employing the Preferred Reported Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis method was used to identify and evaluate relevant research papers. Criteria for selection included subject area, document type, open access status, publication stage, language and source type. The review analyzed data from databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and Science Direct.
The review revealed a significant body of work, including 132 quantitative regression studies and 14 qualitative regression studies. This synthesis highlights existing research trends and methodological approaches, offering a roadmap for future studies.
This paper contributes to the field by providing a detailed overview of tourism demand research methodologies and suggesting future research directions. It emphasizes the need for continued exploration and refinement of methodologies to advance the understanding of tourism demand.
