Advance: Geac's new PICK‐based system Available to Purchase

In 1988 Geac acquired an American company, Advanced Libraries & Information Inc. (ALII) which had developed a PICK‐based system for the University of Hawaii. Geac are now marketing this system, Advance, which runs on a range of industry standard machines, alongside the Geac Library Information System (GLIS) which runs on proprietary Geac machines. There are around 15 users of the system in the US, mainly academic, and, as was reported in the last VINE, the first UK user is the Polytechnic of the South Bank, previously a Geac 8000 user. This article is based on a demonstration at the Polytechnic of the South Bank and some of the features could not be seen; these mainly related to the content of records on the database. An article on the South Bank implementation will appear in a future VINE.
