A corporation’s survival in a competitive environment depends on its timely adoption of breakthrough technologies. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence behavioral intentions to adopt blockchain technology (BT), examine the relationships between these variables and determine whether the proposed model can provide a more comprehensive understanding of adoption.
The collected data from 220 managers in various sectors in Saudi Arabia were analyzed using PLS-SEM.
The results showed that relative advantage, top management support, competency, absorptive capacity, technology readiness, competitive pressure and task-technology fit have a positive impact on behavioral intentions to adopt blockchain technology. At the same time, the “big brother” effect negatively impacts the intention to adopt blockchain technology.
The key contribution of this study lies in providing a comprehensive understanding of the integration between the three models to predict the behavioral intentions to adopt BT. This study integrates the technological, organizational and environmental (TOE) framework with the extended technology acceptance model (TAM) and the task-technology fit (TTF) model to examine the adoption of blockchain technology by Saudi Arabian firms.
