Advanced plastics specialist 3P Ltd have won a large contract to supply PTFE-lined steel pipe for a major water treatment project in Qatar in the Middle East. The Axsia Serck Baker project comprises five sites for processing water produced during oil production.
The 3P product, in sizes from 1in. to 20in. diameter, is believed to represent a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel. It is believed to be the first use of lined pipe for this particular application, which will involve rigorous temperature and pressure conditions.
Water is separated from oil to a degree where it can be reinjected into the ground without causing contamination. Reinjecting the water maintains the required pressure on oil-bearing strata.
