A process for welding structural steel elements coated with anticorrosive layers

Keywords: Daimler-Chrysler, Welding, Steel, Coatings, Semiconductors,Patents

In GB Patent 2345 454 Daimler-Chrysler AG describes a process for welding structural steel elements coated with anticorrosive layers for surface protection. It consists of 3-80 per cent by weight binder and 20-97 per cent by weight filler. Semiconductors and/or semiconductive compounds are mixed in with the filler, or the filler itself can be a semiconductive compound. The semiconductors and/or semiconductive compounds are excited into a state of conductivity by an external, temporary supply of energy for welding, e.g. by heat or light energy. Silicon or germanium may be used as the semiconductors. Titanium oxide, molybdenum sulphide, molybdenum selenide, gallium arsenide, indium phosphide, tungsten selenide, tungsten sulphide, zinc oxide or zinc sulphide, may be used as the semiconductive compounds. Inhibitors such as phosphates, benzoates, silicates, vanadates, tungstates, zirconates, borates or molybdates may also be added to the filler.
