Corrosion and Tablet Machinery

In a number of industries where tablet‐making machines are used—for example, pharmaceuticals and confectionery —corrosion spells contamination. Therefore, it is not simply a question of protecting metal from corrosion but also one of ensuring the purity of the products being tabletted. As an illustration of the importance of the problem it may be recalled that over 50 years ago ivory punches and dies were used to prevent corrosion and contamination. Today modern corrosion‐resistant metals and plastics are used. Here the author describes how machinery makers guard against corrosion and gives some hints on the care of machines to give a corrosion‐free life.
