Vacu-Blast, part of the USF Surface Preparation group, has introduced a new version of its Waffle-Floor shallow-floor pneumatic recovery blastroom.
A Vacu-Blast invention, the Waffle-Floor design utilises a constant downdraught of air which continuously directs used media, dust and debris through a perforated floor into a series of under-floor "mini-hoppers". These are connected to a common duct through which the material is conveyed pneumatically to a power-pack. This automatically recycles reusable blast media to the blast nozzle, thereby minimising media consumption. Degraded material and debris is directed into a dust collector for safe disposal. Because there are no moving parts, the system is maintenance-free and the floor design removes the need for pre-loading with non-recoverable blast media. The under-floor hoppers and ductwork are automatically purged free of blast media, which allows the type and size of media to be changed easily.
The constant downdraught of air claims the inherent advantage of enhancing operator visibility, but the inclusion of higher intensity illumination in the new version has further improved visibility. Added to this, external noise levels have been substantially reduced by the introduction of a new method of construction for the blastroom walls, utilising a special acoustic infill material.
Modifications have also been made to the Waffle-Floor system's high-efficiency power-pack, to accommodate the latest wheat starch abrasive media used for de-painting and"gentler" surface preparation tasks such as precision mould cleaning. All other types and grades of blast media can also be used.
Added to this, the redesigned blast enclosure can be employed for operations other than blasting such as metal spraying or painting where the downdraught ventilation provides better visibility than some existing metal spray and paint booths.
Since no pits are needed for installation of Waffle-Floor blastrooms, they can be mounted directly onto factory floors, thereby saving installation costs and time. Relocation is also straightforward.
Vacu-Blast Waffle-Floor blastrooms are available in sizes from 2m × 2m × 2m high up to virtually any required size. The floor and recovery system can also be incorporated into existing blastrooms or suitable buildings.
