One of Scotland's largest galvanizing companies, Glasgow-based Scottish Galvanizers Ltd, has a new man at the top.

Stephen Milnes has been appointed director and general manager, responsible for a turnover of £3 million a year and a staff of 50, in succession to Robert Dobie who is retiring(Plate 1).

He will spearhead a major investment programme which underlines the firm's position as the market leader.

Having retired at the end of March 1999, Robert Dobie will have completed 33 years in galvanizing, joining the industry afterMerchant Navy service as a marine engineer. He has been general manager at Glasgow since 1980 and a director for the past ten years.

He is presently looking after engineering projects at different Wedge Group plants and he is advising the Galvanizing Association on a consultancy basis.
