High-performance, chromate-free metal primer

Keywords Primer,Trimite

Trimite informs us that it has launched a brand new high-performance, chromate-free general purpose metal primer "GP4" which has been specially formulated to deliver optimum substrate protection plus high opacity prior to finishing, under most conditions.

GP4 claims excellent adhesion to ferrous and pre-treated non-ferrous metals, is said to be fast-drying for rapid re-coatability and fast turn-round, and provides long-lasting anti-corrosion properties. The product is highly pigmented, to maximise opacity over the whole surface of a part, and its combination of pigments and resins is claimed to provide a greater mileage when compared to similar competitive materials. This means that GP4 gives an increase in paint application efficiency with a consistent film build.

Trimite a leading industrial paint and powder coatings manufacturer says that field trials have shown that GP4 coats up to 40 per cent more surface area than a major competitor's product, while achieving full opacity. Rigorous hot salt spray and humidity testing has also demonstrated GP4's superior anti-corrosion characteristics (test results are available on request).

According to Trimite the product's high anti-corrosion properties have been achieved by careful selection of pigments and resin systems to minimise permeability, together with the addition of a zinc-phosphate anti-corrosive pigment which reduces any electrochemical reaction on the surface of a part.

GP4 is offered in seven standard colours non-standard colours are available on request and it can be used with most methods of application.

GP4 metal primer is available in 5-litre cans and 25-litre or 200-litre drums, from Trimite's network of UK regional centres, from which the company also provides comprehensive technical support.

Trimite has produced a handy Condensed Guide to its huge range of products for general industrial use. This details products for coating applications in all sectors of industry, including one-pack and two-pack polyurethane and epoxy materials, cellulose finishes and stoving products offered in a wide variety of textures and in one of the biggest colour ranges available anywhere together with universal and rubber fillers and stoppers and numerous other sundry items. The guide is available on request from the company.
