Keywords: NACE, CD-ROM, Coatings, Standards

NACE International, the Corrosion Society, informs us that it has released a CD-ROM containing a collection of coatings and linings-related technical standards and reports. In addition to the CD-ROM, NACE also reports that it has produced three new technical reports for the coatings and linings industry– two of these reports are a result of joint efforts between NACE and SSPC.

The NACE coatings collection on CD-ROM, which is updated biannually, contains the complete collection of NACE standards and technical committee reports related to coatings. Technicians, contractors, applicators, owners, and others involved in the coatings industry can have at their fingertips every standard and report published by NACE in the area of coatings, including joint NACE/SSPC standards and reports – 44 standards and 19 reports in all.

This collection of coatings-specific technical committee publications covers topics such as:

  • Abrasive blasting.

  • Coatings with cathodic protection.

  • Conversion coatings.

  • Electroless nickel coatings.

  • Holiday detection.

  • Offshore platform coatings.

  • Pipeline coatings.

  • Railcar coatings.

  • Secondary containment.

  • Wax coatings.

  • Welding.

Features include:

  • Portable Document Format (PDF).

System requirements: Windows i486 or Pentium processor-based PC; Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later; 16MB RAM; 10MB available hard disk space for Acrobat; 25MB available hard disk space, if all standards and reports are installed (full installation not required); super VGA monitor with 256 colors or better is recommended but not required.

Macintosh – Apple Power Macintosh or compatible; MacOS software version 7.1.2 or later; 6.5MB RAM; 8MB available hard disk space for Acrobat; 25MB available hard disk space, if all standards and reports are installed (fill installation not required); super VGA monitor with 256 colors or better is recommended but not required. Other platforms that are compatible with Adobe Acrobat can be used, but are not supported by NACE International.

Note: The NACE Coatings Collection on CD-ROM comes complete with Acrobat Reader 4.0. Adobe Acrobat is not compatible with Windows 3.xplatforms.To run the CD-ROM using Windows 3.x, you must install Acrobat Reader 3.0 or 3.01. Those versions can be downloaded free from the Adobe Web site.

In addition to the CD-ROM, three new technical reports are available from NACE.

6A100 Coatings Used in Conjunction with Cathodic Protection – this technical report provides users of protective coatings and cathodic protection with information on the strengths and weaknesses of each protective system and explains how a greater level of corrosion protection can be achieved on buried or immersed substrates if both systems are used together.

80100/SSPC-TR 3 Dehumidification and Temperature Control during Surface Preparation, Application, and Curing for Coatings/Linings of Steel Tanks,Vessels, and Other Enclosed Spaces – this joint NACE/SSPC report presents current information about why and how dehumidification and temperature control are being used to achieve higher-quality coating/lining projects. It is intended to be a resource for engineers and coating consultants who write specifications for coating projects involving tanks or enclosed spaces.

80200/SSPC-TR 4 Preparation of Protective Coating Specifications for Atmospheric Service – this joint NACE/SSPC report describes current practices for the preparation of a protective coating specification for atmospheric service. It provides a general description of a specification, as well as a review of the contents of a specification; the typical selection of protective coatings; and the establishment of job and inspection requirements. Format and writing style are stressed. There is also discussion of commercial aspects of the work that have not typically been contained in the technical specification. This report is intended for facility owners, engineering/erection contractors, in-plant protective coating specialists, inspectors, and others responsible for protective coating work.
