The Latest Fokker Aeroplane—The F.32: Four‐engined Day and Night Flying 30‐Passenger Machine with High Speed Range

THE latest Fokker aeroplane, the F.32, is a four‐engined monoplane on familiar lines, with seats for 30 passengers, in addition to two pilots, wireless operator and steward. The specification called for a top speed of 140 m.p.h., cruising speed of 120 m.p.h., and landing speed of 60 m.p.h. On its trial flight it attained a maximum of 157 m.p.h., cruising speed of 120 to 125 m.p.h., and was landed at 47 m.p.h.—all these being A.S.I. readings. The four 525 h.p. Pratt & Whitney “Hornet” engines are located in two nacelles suspended from the wing on each side. Each nacelle contains two engines in tandem with two 15‐gallon oil tanks between. Four 175‐gallon petrol tanks are provided, with glass gauges in view of the pilot. The weight empty is 13,800 lb., and a useful load of 8,700 lb. can be carried, making the gross weight 22,500 lb. For day flying it is intended to carry 400 gallons of petrol, 40 gallons of oil, crew of four, and 30 passengers with 560 lb. of baggage. For night work the crew will be increased to five, and only 16 passengers will be carried, the petrol load being raised to 700 gallons, with 820 lb. of baggage.
