IT is not an easy task for either designer or production engineer to find at once the best possible and the most economic method of manufacturing a part, taking into consideration that there are so many various cases which may arise in any problem of construction. Even if both parties, relying upon their knowledge of materials, of methods of working, and of the general resources in design (such as types of drawing, standardization, etc.) strive to attain the end in view, they have to take into account numerous empirical values which have resulted from practice as useful hints for increasing the quality, and reducing the cost, of production. Every constructor, no matter whether designer or production engineer, must constantly bear in mind such knowledge in order to eliminate mistakes which frequently recur in respect of design and production technique.
