New equipment for automatically measuring the proof stress of a metal removes the need for the lengthy plotting of load/extension curves previously required for determining proof stress—resulting in cheaper and faster testing. When used with testing machines operating on a routine basis, this equipment will halve the labour cost and increase the rate of testing by saving 25 per cent of the time involved in manual recording of stress measurements.
