THE addition of fuel system protection during post‐crash ground fires and design features which would ensure shutoff of engine fuel in such circumstances are the subjects of an Advnaced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking recently issued by the FAA. This is the result of information from public hearings and recommendations of the SAFER Advisory Committee. Comments have to be received by January 25, 1985. This Advanced NPRM has been issued since it has been found that reasonable outside inquiry is necessary to identify and select a tentative or alternative course of action or where public participation may be helpful.
