Former aerospace regulators to be awarded DOA status by EASA
After less than a year of being in business, aeroDAC (Tel: þ44 (1)1293 888), an independent, UK-based design organisation providing guidance in certification of aviation products through to complete aircraft, has been granted Design Organisation Approval (DOA) status by EASA.
Drawing on their shared regulatory expertise gained working for the UK Civil Aviation Authority, aeroDAC's three founding directors – Terry Gibson,Carl Thomas and Jonathan Howes – are thought to be the first ever group of former aerospace regulators to have set up an approved design organisation. Not only is aeroDAC a new type of design organisation, but it is also the first DOA holder to be applying direct regulatory experience to certification problem-solving in the aerospace sector.
Terry Gibson, aeroDAC's managing director, says: “Achieving our DOA is a major milestone for us, as applying for this status is a significant undertaking for any organisation.” aeroDAC's EASA Part 21 Subpart J Design Organisation Approval means that the company is now able to provide direct approval of minor modifications and repairs without EASA involvement. It is also able to submit Statements of Compliance to EASA for both type certificates (TCs)and supplementary type certificates (STCs) for complete aircraft and major changes that fall within the scope of its approval.
