Dr Nadia Alaily‐Mattar is a research and teaching associate at the Chair of Urban Development, Technische Universität München (TUM). Nadia is an architect, graduate of the American University of Beirut (AUB). She received her Master’s degree in Housing and Urban Regeneration from the London School of Economics and Political Science and her PhD degree in Planning Studies from the University College of London (UCL). She worked at the UN Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia. Her research interests revolve around star architecture and its media effects, future-oriented urban planning and methods, and the role of architecture in urban development.

Dominik Bartmański (Dr habil) earned his PhD in sociology at Yale University and works within the Institute of Sociology at Technische Universität Berlin, and as a research fellow in the project “Smart Cities: Everyday Life in Digitalized Spaces” as part of the Collaborative Research Center “Re‐Figuration of Spaces” at the Technische Universität Berlin.

Johannes Dreher holds the position of research associate at HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU) since 2017, after being Research Associate at the Chair of Urban Development at the Technische Universität München (TUM), where he was part of an interdisciplinary research projects at both TUM and HCU. Johannes holds a Diploma degree in Geography from the Goethe University Frankfurt. He has also worked as a Research Analyst at CBRE GmbH in Frankfurt.

Prof Dr Michael Koch is an architect, urban planner and professor of urban design and district planning at HafenCity University HCU (until 2018). Prior to his tenure at HCU, he was a professor of urban planning and urban design at Bergische Universität Wuppertal, visiting professor at various universities and research fellow at ETH Zurich. His projects, teaching and research operate at the interface of architecture, urban design and urban planning. He is a member of several advisory boards in Germany and Switzerland. Currently he is a guest teacher and researcher at different universities and partner at yellow z urbanism architecture Zurich Berlin.

Prof Dr Martina Löw is a professor of sociology at the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. Her areas of specialization and research are sociological theory, urban sociology, space theory and cultural sociology. She was a visiting professor and held fellowships at universities in Gothenburg (Sweden), Salvador da Bahia (Brazil), St Gallen (Switzerland), Paris (France) and Vienna (Austria). From 2011 until 2013, she was the president of the German Sociological Association. Currently she is the head of the Collaborative Research Centre “Re‐Figuration of Spaces” (DFG).

Dr Timothy Pape is an architect and urban cultural researcher. He is a research fellow in the project “Smart Cities: Everyday Life in Digitalized Spaces” as part of the Collaborative Research Center “Re-Figuration of Spaces” at the Technische Universität Berlin. He graduated in Architecture (MA) at the TU Berlin and in Media and Communication (MSc) at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London. In his architectural practice and as an urban design scholar his research interest focusses on intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches towards aesthetic reflection of urban dynamic form.

Prof Dr Alain Thierstein is a Full Professor for Urban Development at the Technische Universität München. He is also affiliated with EBP Schweiz AG, Zurich, as partner and senior consultant in the field of urban and regional economic development. He received his Master’s degree and his PhD in Economics from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland. His research interests are in urban and metropolitan development; spatial impact of the knowledge economy – particularly the visualisation of non‐physical company relationships and spatial interaction of locational choices for residence, work and mobility; and, the role of star architecture for repositioning medium‐sized cities.
